Our second limited reward available only to those who have already backed the film went up this morning.
THIS WEEKEND ONLY – WE RECORD YOUR VOICEMAIL GREETING!
Imagine your friends calling and getting James Deen on your voicemail. Given what he’d probably say, it’s unlikely they’d ever call again, but still, how cool is that? Most of the C&Ecast and crew will be available, so you’ll get to pick your poison. (We haven’t asked Richard Hatch yet, but we’re betting he’ll play along)
From now until Midnight (PST), Sunday, February 24, if you backed the film before this update posts and add $10 or more to your donation (or go to the next tier reward, assuming it’s a bump of at least $10), you get a Unique voicemail greeting recorded by the Cowboys & Engines cast or crew member of your choice!
Remember, you ONLY HAVE UNTIL SUNDAY!
Just add to your donation, or grab the next tier up, and we’ll do the rest. We get a time-stamped email telling us how much you added, and when. All of those emails will get sorted together so we know who to contact about recording a greeting once Kickstarter has closed. If you have questions, feel free to drop us a line here, or at email@example.com.
For the remainder of the campaign, we’ll be posting limited rewards that are available only to people who have already showed us some love and gotten on board early. This is just the first:
THIS WEEK ONLY – CUSTOM UNIQUE 8×10
We have three different photographers doing photos for the movie; a combination of behind-the-scenes stills, production stills and promotional work. We already have a set of amazing shots from Ben Hoffman of our table read, some of which will be going up on our new Tumblr and Instagram accounts this week.
From now until Midnight (PST), Saturday, February 23, anyone who had backed the filmbefore this update posts who adds$10 or more to their donation gets a Unique 8×10 chosen from the hundreds we will have after we wrap, signed by the cast & crew.
NO TWO PEOPLE WILL GET THE SAME PHOTOGRAPH!
If you weren’t a backer of Cowboys & Engines when this was posted at 9:30 this morning, you missed out on the chance for this cool, one-of-a-kind item. Donate now so you won’t miss out on the next one!
Just before 11pm on Sunday,Meghan Wren, one of our own previz artists, kicked in $200 to put our Kickstarter project over $50k, and past the halfway mark. With 19 days to go, this puts us in a great position.
A huge chunk of your Kickstarter support comes at the very end of your campaign. Often projects will get 40% or more of their funding in the last few days of the campaign. The fact the we’re in the middle of the campaign, when your donations slow to a trickle, and still broke $50k this week, is exciting and amazing.
Starting Monday, we’re going to be offering some very exclusive rewards that are ONLY available to people who have already backed the project, so keep an eye peeled, and keep spreading the word. If you haven’t donated yet, now is definitely the time.
Tell your family, tell your friends. Post the link on blogs, websites, chatrooms. We got this far, we can sprint the rest of the way!
We’ve been trying to schedule time to sit down with Walter Koenig, and VFX Supervisor Ryan Carter, for weeks so we could interview them about the project, and incorporate those interviews into our Kickstarter video.
In the last two weeks, it finally happened. Both Walter’s interview and Ryan’s are up and on the Kickstarter homepage.
We’ve also had a huge boost to our campaign in the last week. Both of our Executive Producer spots have been taken; one by Mike Cabana, who is a good friend of Meghan Wren, one of our pre-viz artists. The second by Melissa Kimbro, a close friend of Bryn Pryor.
We’ll have bios up for both of them in the coming weeks, but both Michael and Melissa have hit the groud running, asking all the right questions and focusing on doing everything they can to help us reach that magic $100k mark!
Welcome to the family.
This is a big update, so if you don’t have the patience, interest or time to dig through the details, I’m going to skip the softsell and put the major point right up top; Kickstarter is doing GREAT but WE STILL NEED YOU!
Please, if you haven’t looked at our Kickstarter page, click this link and pony up some spare change.
It’s no lie to say that every dollar really does help, and we’re thrilled to get it. Match what you spend on Starbucks every day, and we’re funded!
But while we want your money, we really NEED your involvement. We have to reach as many people as possible, so please, copy that link, or any of the links listed below and froward them to your email list with a note of support. Talk up the project to your friends and family, and ask them to do the same. Email the websites you look at or the blogs you read and ask them to cover the project.
That might sound futile, but I swear, there’s nothing more important in the world. It means so much more coming from you than it does from us, and it works. We’ve already gotten some PR from people on this list doing that exact thing.
Most importantly, KEEP AT IT! Even when we hit that $100k, we want to go over. We want to hit what they call our “Stretch Goal,” and that stretch goal is, as much as we can get! Every dollar goes on screen to make the movie bigger, better, and more impressive. No matter what our total, this campaign doesn’t end until March 9th, and we’ll be asking you to help until that very last minute!
Now, for those who want it, here’s the latest:
Thursday was a big day for Cowboys & Engines; we’ve secured a new Executive Producer in Michael Hemmerich, a friend of a friend with a great heart and an artistic sentiment who’s come on board to help us steer this boat to shore (or zeppelin to the pad, in this case.)
We’ve also been getting a lot of great press since launching the campaign. Producer James Deen did dozens of interviews in Las Vegas, most of which have mentioned and linked to our Kickstarter page. (We’re talking Entertainment Weekly, The Daily Beast, The Huffington Post, Slate, and a whole lot more)
Additionally, our own press push is gaining traction, and Cowboys & Engines articles are popping up on websites small and large all over the world (literally; we’ve had articles on websites from Rio, London & Prague.)
Also, we have various events lined up over the next month to ensure we have something fresh to talk about. There’s new content on this site every day, so be sure to keep checking it.
We shot our Kickstarter interview with Star Trek star Walter Koenig, who plays Professor Timéon in our film, on Wednesday. That — as well as the interview with our FX Supervisor Ryan Carter — will be going up this evening so we can promote it throughout the weekend.
We’re very close to announcing our final casting for Dr. Clay, and we’re very excited about that. He’s an amazingly talented actor, and that will give us an added PR push, and even more legitmacy in the minds of geeks worldwide.
On February 12th, we’re having a table read of the full script at Clockwork Couture, a steampunk clothing store here in the L.A. area. Since the majority of our cast will be attending, including Jeff Cannata, Walter Koenig and (we hope) the mysterious Dr. Clay, we’re attempting to get press to cover the reading. We might also make a few audience spots available on Kickstarter, though the room itself is quite small so space is limited.
That same night, members of our team will be accepting an invitation from organizer Kevin Flint to come speak at “The Collaboration Project,” a monthly creative networking event with a focus on independent film and Kickstarter projects. That’s being held at the Brewery in downtown LA, and and we’ll be publicizing the info so anyone local who’s interested can attend that.
Their Facebook page is here:
Including attendance at that table reading, we’re going to be offering some new rewards shortly including a package aimed squarely at James Deen fans (who can’t afford $2k for the date), and another offering a model of the Magellan rocket.
Lastly, James’ publicist will be sending out a series of press releases over the coming days talking about all of the above, and getting that out to the broader press, who will hopefully pick it up.That’s all for now, but this isn’t the last time you’ll be hearing from me.

We still have a helluva long way to go, but suddenly this evening, one of my new favorite Kickstarter backers read James Deen’s Daily Beast interview, clicked over to our Kickstarter page, and kicked in $2,000 for a date with the man himself.
Do we feel bad about pimping out our producer and riding the rising tide of his fame to get our movie produced?
Heh. Not in the slightest! Not even for a second!
Thank you to all of our backers, from $1 contributors to the $2,000 folks. We are gonna do this thing!
Keep spreading the word!
